SEL through boxing and yoga
ToolShed Boxing partnered with Bethlehem School District to support students at Fountain Hill Elementary School. This year long pilot program aims to teach 4th and 5th graders social and emotional learning through boxing and yoga. We focus on self management, self awareness, responsible decision making, relationship skills, and social awareness.
Most importantly, we focus on showing up consistently, making sure the kids know they can count us, and making sure the kids have fun.
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 was designed to facilitate equitable access to quality education. Title I of this act provides federal funds to schools where there is a high rate of students living in poverty. The goal of Title I was to improve the skills of students attending urban or rural schools, allowing them to compete with their peers who attend suburban schools. For more info on the history of Title I and where it stands today check out the Social Welfare History Project.
Fountain Hill Elementary is a Title 1 school. ToolShed Boxing is grateful for the opportunity to put the legislature of Title 1 into action.
